It is categorised in the Borough's Unitary Development Plan as a Site of Borough Importance Grade II and it also forms part of the Lee Valley Regional Park and is therefore Green Belt land. Markfield Park was officially opened as Markfield Recreation Ground King George's Field by the Mayor of Tottenham in 1938.
